Home About Us

The association was innitiated and formerly founded in July 1994 at the residence of Morro Ceesay. The meeting was chaired by Alagie Gassama and among the attendees were Bulli Dibba, Morro Ceesay, Alikali Dibba, Ebrima Touray, Saloum Bajo and Alagie Kassama. The mission of the association was to provide an ongoing sense of community to all Gambians in Minnesota.

The executive committee under the leadership of Morro Ceesay expedited drafting the first by-laws of the association. At the time of it's formation it was not known or it was not mentioned if a similar association, by Gambians had already existed. However it came to be known that there was indeed, at a point in time, a lesser active Gambian Association in Minnesota. The association suffered setbacks including confusion and misunderstandings as to the aims and objectives of the association. The association was never legally registered with the state authorities due to some legal concerns and the different interpretations of it's by-laws and constitutions which triggered endless dabates and arguements especially over the issues of benefits to paying and nonpaying members.
